The database is getting full so I think I'm going to start snipping stuff out of the lounge - starting with members.

To me, if you're going to be part of a community, you should contribute. It's all well and good having 4000+ members, but when 25% of them haven't been active since 2008, and 65% have never posted a damned thing, it's time to start cutting some dead wood.

Am I being harsh?

Firstly, I've offloaded everything in the skratchbay before 2009. And the skratchworx livefeed is gone too - it was barely used.

Pruning dead members seems fair enough to me. You've also given warning to the lurkers. :)

I agree.I would suggest saving any and all info/topics posted in "gear" and "mods" section on how to mod fix anything or setting up gear or what to purchase etc... Either put those topics in a "special" archive section or something like that.

A "lot" of that info is ONLY available on SKRATCHLOUNGE and is probably one of the main reasons SKRATCHLOUNGE has so much traffic. I would suggest that if people want to get that "essential" information they should have to log in. (Some other web sites do that as well now,to get the "real good info" you MUST be a member)

Any and all info I have to do with gear or mods I post here and no where else (not worth it really, almost everyone ends up here eventually-I see so MUCH info stolen and copied from here on "other" dj websites.

The NEW stuff I will post WILL bring more traffic as well, including PIONEER CDJ info, more Stanton/Technics/Super OEM stuff and (finally) faders.

and other info-member Optic has other Technics turntables mods you can TRY to pry out of him like how to make your 1200 reverse feature without the "kit" (so I have been told)and the 78rpm feature (I have been told he got his hands on the rare Technics SL1200 MK4 manual -in english

Skratchlounge is eventually going to be like the dj community-either you are in it or you are not- everyone wants to be one but not everyone has the "willpowa" (ha ha)and dedication to stay one-a lot of posers and frauds that overkill the scene

just because it is not as "trendy any more" to the fakes/shallow people - do they have the heart to stick around?

some of the more controversial topics have inpired new members to chime in, whether we disagree or not, its alll good getting people to voice and contribute. i think this is an essential part of getting behind consumer ethos, thus gaining trend info as well as commercial viability. even the more les tech orientatedthreads that were just about culture and application are important for discussion and are fundamentally interconnected. it would be a shame to make them only viewable to members and not fire up new peeps to add to the debates.

It's got to be done. 'Waste is a thief' or something like that.

Neutralised for ya. :)

CGDJ, who've you been pissing off?

Also why did we wind up with a rep system anyway? Seems kinda odd not having it under the avatars if it's going to stick around.

Also I can rep myself. Hehe.

I meant the rep totals, not how to vote it. You can see someone's reputation on their profile page currently, but most forums that want to use the rep system also leave the tally under each post's avatar.
